Boutique developer Studio Gobo is developing the Pirates of
the Caribbean playset for Disney Interactive and Avalanche Software's Disney
Infinity, according to a post on the developer's official Facebook page.
"If you see any boats or pirates — that's the bit that
we are working on at Gobo," reads the post. "We're responsible for
the Pirates of the Caribbean playset in Disney Infinity. Very proud."
Britain-based Studio Gobo, lead by former Climax
Racing/Black Rock Studio co-founder Tony Beckwith, is building one of four
currently-announced sets for the game. The others include packs based on
Pixar's upcoming film Monsters University and previously released titles The Incredibles
and Cars. Gobo's Pirates set will be included in the Disney Infinity Starter
Pack when the game is launched.
Disney Infinity was officially unveiled in an event held in
Hollywood last month. The game is set to release across all platforms later this
year, and includes figurine packs that interact with the game in a way similar
to Activision's Skylanders franchise.
Studio Gobo was founded in September 2011 and began working
in tandem with other developers on "unannounced productions" for
Microsoft Studios over the next year. In 2012 the company assisted Codemasters
with development for racing title F1 2012.
When contacted for more information on how the studio became
involved with Disney Infinity, a representative for Studio Gobo told Polygon
the studio "can't comment at this time." We have also reached out to
Disney Interactive Studios to inquire of other playsets are in development at
outside studios, and will update this story with more details as we have them.
